SUGGESTED COMIC FANTASY/SCI-FI BOOKS

NOTE: I don't have time to read all the books that I recommend here, so I have just put near complete lists of all the books of good authors. I've read at least one work from all the authors here and have liked them. If you want to sampe nearly all the authors mentioned here, plus many more, then buy The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy and The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy II. While quite a lot of stories in these anthologies aren't funny, many are hilarious, and they're well worth the money.

Adams, Douglas Douglas Adams's "Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is incredibly famous. Just about everyone knows that the meaning of life is 42. It's a true classic and so are the four sequels, though they aren't quite as good as the first. In fact, they grow increasingly cynical as you make your way through the series, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I haven't tried any of the Dirk Gently books or the Starship Titanic but they should be good.
Friesner, Esther Many of her books are out of print now. In fact, the only ones I could fine on Amazon were her anthologies and a couple of Star Trek books. Amazon can order in second hand books for you though, so feel free to try. If you can find one of her books, get it. You won't be disappointed.
Holt, Tom Tom Holt's written many more books than shown on this list. Blame Amazon. Tom Holt writes very clever works. He's written about a Pizza Time Delivery Agency, a parody of Planet of the Apes called "Escape from the Planet of the Bears", and has come up with many other hilarious ideas.
Pratchett, Terry Terry Pratchett is possibly my favourite comic fantasy/sci-fi author. He's incredibly funny and clever. For some reason he isn't very popular in the US, probably because he's British, but he's starting to become more well known there. He's very popular in Australia and Great Britain. He mostly writes fantasy but he's written a few science fiction ones as well. The Discworld books are his best, all of them are good. Some of his other books are pretty good, like the "Nome" trilogy, but the ones he wrote for kids are generally bad. Especially the "Johnny" series.
