SacrificeThis game is a 3D fantasy strategy with action and RPG elements, and lots of humor. It's so good because nothing exactly like it has been done before. Its graphics are brilliant and so are its storyline, music and gameplay. It also comes with a good map editor. The two resouces are mana and souls. Souls you get from around the landscape and are used to build guys. You can steal enemy souls when their creatures die. Mana is used to summon creatures and use the other spells. You get it from mana fountains but you need to summon Manahoars who transmit the mana from the fountain to you. These use up souls, so you have to balance it carefully. There are five different gods you can choose, all who have different strengths, weaknesses, units, and spells. Gameplay is a bit hectic and battles can be a bit confusing and long, but overall this game is just sheer brilliance. Shiny at its best.

StarCraftOne of the all-time classics of traditional real-time strategy. Its made by Blizzard, who so far haven't made a substandard game. You can play as three totally different races, leading to many strategies and tactics. There are thirty levels in the campaigns (all together) and the levels are well designed with a brilliant storyline. Battle.net, Blizzard's online gaming server, is the biggest gaming server in the world and you can organise games with thousands of different people. This game is getting older so the graphics aren't top-of-the-range, but they have a nice cartoony feel. It's also got great cinematics.

Fallout 2A post nuclear role-playing game. One of the only science-fiction role playing games around. It has the same engine as the first one but is much bigger and better. This game is filled with humour and the character generation is absolutely superb. Instead of the usual classes, there are many skills to choose from to upgrade and every one is useful. It's possible to win the game without fighting any hard bad guys. Every three levels your character progresses, he gets a perk. Perks are a special ability or trait which add even more complexity and depth to the game. There are hundreds of weapons and items around and the turn-based battles, are very good. A top notch game from the masters of strategy, Black Isle.

Planescape: TormentThis game is also made by Black Isle and is, in my opinion, the best RPG ever made (PCPowerplay Australia, agree with me). This is set in a weird and gothic world and your main character is an immortal who's forgotten who he is. There isn't as much fighting as normal RPGs, instead this game focuses on plot and dialogue. While there is sometimes an over-abundance of talking, the plot is moving and interesting enough so that you don't get bored. In fact, this game has possibly the most moving and best plot ever in a game. The character generation is also very good and there's quite a lot of items that you can choose. The NPCs who can join your party are all unique and very interesting, an example is Morte, a talking and floating skull. This game uses the same engine as Baldur's Gate and as such the interface is very similar. The game's voice acting, story, music, and ambient sound are absolutely superb and the graphics are nice as well. You must get this game.

System Shock 2This is one of the scariest games ever made. It will leave you cringing in your seat. It's a 3D RPG set in the future. This also combines some elements of FPSs to good effect. The sound is absolutely superb; you can actually hear the bad guys approaching from behind you. Sparse ammo and the ease with which you die leaves you treading through the corridors fearfully, with your heart thudding away in your chest. Character generation while unusual (there's no experience) is also very good and you'll spend a lot of time trying to decide what to upgrade. It's such a pity that Looking Glass Studios has gone insolvent, as they were a brilliant game developer (responsible for this and the Thief series, to name but a few).
